As one of a handful of anesthesiologists who can claim to be triply Boarded, Dr. Robert Trainer has certifications in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. After working in both academic medicine and private practice settings, Dr. Trainer considers his current position working with veterans at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center both an honor and a privilege.
In addition to his commitment to delivering quality patient care, Dr. Trainer has demonstrated a penchant for academic medicine and research. He has authored 4 chapters in well-known anesthesia textbooks, developed and conducted two different CME lecture series in two separate institutions, published several peer reviewed articles, and developed a variety research protocols. Most recently, he is attempting to determine an optimal dose of low molecular weight heparin compatible with in-dwelling catheters and testing the reliability of portable pulse oximeters during air transport.
Dr. Trainer is a long-time advocate of the anesthesiologists’ role as Perioperative Consultant. True to his name, he has been a highly popular examiner, earning top scores from candidate evaluations. He eager and earnest in his desire to help the next generation of Anesthesiologists become Diplomates of the ABA by becoming Consultants.
